FALMOUTH PUB WINS MARKETING AND QUALITY SERVICE AWARDS

A Falmouth pub has beaten hundreds of pubs to be crowned regional winner of a national competition organised by Punch Taverns to celebrate the ‘Summer of Our Lives’ winning 1000 pints of beer!

The Prince of Wales produced an award winning business plan to pick up the regional winner award in the contest, which was arranged by Punch to encourage licensees to plan for this summer’s never to be repeated season of events.

The pub, which is run by licensees Jayne Martin and husband Dave has delivered a packed summer of events– and has already celebrated the Jubilee with ‘A Royal Event’ - a Jubilee lunch accompanied with a ration-book inspired menu as well as a ‘Queens Tea’.

To celebrate Euro 2012, the pub created world food specials linked to competing countries. They also have plans for the summer to celebrate the British Food Fortnight, as well as holding music events. During the Olympics, the pub plans to hold various pub games and challenges, like an innovative Treasure Hunt – featuring a collection of items from each country in Olympics – as well as planning to a great selection of Real ales for the Great British Beer Festival.

The judges praised the effort put in and the enthusiasm shown by the licensees, particularly the way in which they involved their staff and customers by creating such a wide selection of events. “The Prince of Wales pub is an excellent role model. They are worthy finalists, going above and beyond what should be expected of a well run pub business.”

The Prince of Wales is also celebrating after having won an award for its excellent service standards in a national mystery customer scheme. It is one of the first pubs in the UK to have earned the award, which is judged by Cask Marque, the national body that checks beer quality and the quality of the customer experience.

The pub was first assessed on how regularly it cleans its beer lines. It then received a mystery visit by a Cask Marque assessor who focused on first impressions, service, the bar, drinks, food and the toilets.

After passing the mystery visit, a technical services team then checked the pubs cellar standards and the pub received a point of sale pack, including posters and branded glassware, to promote and maintain its high standards.

Lisa Smart, Regional Manager for Punch said: “The aim of the Quality Service Award is to recognise those pubs that achieve the highest standards. There are lots of excellent pubs in the UK and the scheme is a sort of kitemark provided by an independent assessor that recognises these outstanding pubs.  The external accreditation body, Cask Marque, has a great track record in driving quality within the pub trade through recognition of good operators who are achieving excellent standards.

Jayne Martin who has been running the pub for 6 years is delighted with the awards – and prizes!  “It’s a great accolade to receive, we work really hard to keep our customers coming back and happy and it’s rewarding for the whole team here to have their dedication recognised”

The award was presented to Dave and Jayne by the Chief Executive of Punch Taverns.
